Helping Hands and You & Me Mum

Helping Hands is a fun packed programme for children. It addresses the challenging issues of personal space, awareness of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours, and safety planning. Three themes, called the Protective Behaviours, are reinforced throughout the programme:

  • We all have the right to feel safe all the time.
  • There is nothing so small or so awful we can’t talk about it with someone.
  • Others have the right to feel safe with us

It is aimed at children aged 7-10 and runs for 60 mins per week for 6 weeks. It is particularly useful for children who have experienced/witnessed domestic abuse but is also a suitable course for any children to learn about protective behaviours. Ideally the course is run alongside the ‘You and Me, Mum’ programme for Mums. The course can also be run in schools. The programme is delivered by experienced and qualified staff who have extensive knowledge of Domestic abuse and programme delivery.

You and me, Mum is a programme for Mums, which will empower, support and develop further understanding of a woman’s role as a mother in addressing the needs of children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

It gives the opportunity to safely explore the impact domestic abuse has had on the family and helps Mums to develop effective communication skills for maintaining and improving their relationships with their children. The course also works alongside the ‘Helping Hands’ course to help Mums to keep their children safe. It usually runs for 90 mins per week for 6 weeks and ideally participants will have already completed the Freedom Programme.
